modelling NSW 1500 volt overhead traction wiring... ideas?

Hi everyone,

My new layout design is coming along well. Something I've decided to do is
make it an industrial setting with lots of general industry serviced mostly
by rail, and I'd like to have the 'main line' feeding into the area
electrified so that I can run my electric locos (Ian Lindsay 86's and brass
46's) as well as diesels.

I've been reading up about connecting DCC using overhead wiring, but
something that seems lacking is products to actually model NSW overhead
traction wiring accurately. It looks like some of the Sommerfeldt products
can be used to simulate more modern (gal H-beam posts, etc.) traction
wiring, but what about the older style? Seems that the only way to go would
be using brass shapes, etc.

That would be very realistic, but would mean that there would need to be
work put into having proper insulators, etc. supporting the catenary and
contact wires, etc. just like the real thing. Using plastic sections to
model the staunchions, etc. would work, but they wouldn't be as strong.

There aren't many layouts which accurately model 1500 volt DC overhead
wiring, and since it's only used here in NSW and in Melbourne, there
probably isn't a lot of scope, but I'm keen to hear about other people's
efforts in this area...

Perhaps this could be a good kick-starter for a Railzone forum discussion
topic? 8-)

Regards,

Craig.
