Hi everyone,

I've set up the skeleton of web-based online forums for prototype and
model railway enthusiasts at my Railzone.org website. You can access the
forums by going to:

http://www.railzone.org/phpBB2/index.php

I'm open to suggestions for how to categorise and develop the forums to
suit the needs of the people who will use them.

The forums are designed and set up primarily from an Australian (and New
Zealand) perspective to support and prototype and model railway
enthusiasts in Australia and NZ, but they are open to anyone from any
country who would like to contribute to the discussions.

Please take the time to register for the forums and contribute during this
early development stage!

Everyone is welcome - nobody will be refused access to the forums unless
your actions are harmful or illegal. That's pretty much a standard
'disclaimer' will all the web-forums I've set up as it's unfair to
restrict access for particular people without very good (ie. completely
justifiable and legal) reason! 8-)

Regards,

Craig.

Not always the best option - at least with your own forums, you have better
control over the usage & content - as well, a lot of people don't bother
with Usenet - signal to noise ratio in some groups can be quite high, plus
it's a target for rather innapropriate posts.

cheers,

Lance

I sit on several forums that I find terrific value - one for Subaru has
saved my arse more than once in addition to giving me vital info regarding
turbo charger plumbing etc. Another is a woodworking forum that is totally
brilliant. This forum has provided materials, sales, great hints, and
allowed me to help others with my particular skills.

In addition, they have files areas, photo sections and a range of other
things that mean value to their members.

All this is too hard because I have to log in? Good on ya

Other people have used the analogy of Yahoo - I use phpBB deliberately
because it is *not* yahoo and does not force you to accept annoying banner
adds or google-style 'targetted' link advertising.

phpBB is free, very well supported, and very extensible. I've got no
problems adding additional forums, etc. based on what people ask for.

It's simple enough - if you are serious about your rail-related hobby and
you would like to use any of the forums I have set up, registering takes
less than 5 minutes and that gives unlimited access to all the forums.

Regards,

Craig.
