So, a virulent strain of this microbe has killed 22 persons in Europe,
leaving another 600 in intensive care.
The source was originally claimed to be Spanish cucumbers, but the strain
was different. Latest source is German bean sprouts, but tests so far have
been negative.
Tracking the outbreak to origin is difficult, as any symptom takes a week
to occur, then further week(s) to show more dangerous signs.
Hence, finding a common factor in meals consumed is hard, especially if
many victims have died before they can speak about it.
On the other hand, can a person avoid ingesting E-coli, even if present
on vegetable matter? Provided the bacterium is surface located, then
washing it off a cucumber is certainly easier than trying to do same to a
bean sprout. Hot water, and thorough?
