In view of the continuing ignorance about the science of climate change (ie.AGW), the ABC-TV program "Catalyst" might do us all a service if it summed up the facts in, say, a six-part series - then put the whole lot on DVD. Futurology is our most important science in the present parlous state of the planet, and the increase in world population, charted against decline in arable land and drinking water, is one graph of significance. The production of goods, and recycling (or not) of waste products, is another graph of importance - with land-fill, air and sea pollution, etc. Minerals and fossil fuels reserves, rate of extraction, and future potential is yet another graph - minerals can be recycled; but fossil fuels once burnt, are gone forever. People may not understand how a minor component of the atmosphere can influence climate by global warming (along with steam and methane, etc) - and this is the crux of the matter re Skeptics and Deniers. Melting of glaciers and permafrost may be just due to a warming cycle over geological time - say the doubters. All rather difficult to explain maybe, but when the overall impact of human numbers and technology generally are added to the mix, air pollution falls into place. Of course, Catalyst may have already covered most of this, and I missed it. PS: Al Gore did a good job, but could be supplemented, especially if scientists are now getting death threats from the ignorant who feel their livelihood is at risk.
