>Yes, but have they had any other effect? I'm generally a sceptic when >it comes to speed cameras. Bit of a revenue raiser I reckon. And what >happens to all the money they receive for fines? New services, >improved roads? No way! A hell of alot of money has to be going >somewhere. > Even if speed cameras are a revenue raiser does it really matter. You ARE breaking the law, you ARE putting people at risk (in most cases anyway), you should be booked. If the fines do go into consolidated revenue the money is then used by the government for all its good (ha ha) and not so good. You know- Schools, hospitals, ministerial lunches etc. If the revenue wasn't there from fines what do you think would happen to our taxes on petrol, cigs and alcohol. Doesn't take a genius to work out where the shortfall would be met. If the government can raise revenue while reducing the road toll good on them. if you want to speed or drink and drive then accept that you are breaking the law and sooner or later you will have to pay. leon PS Qld will soon be introducing speed cameras (at last) but there will be no fines associated with them (I wonder how long that will last) -- ********************************************************************* Leon Scott Cooperative Research Centre for Tropical Pest Management University of Queensland Brisbane, 4072, AUSTRALIA Email: L.Scott@ctpm.uq.edu.au Phone: +617 3365 1879 Fax: +617 3365 1855 *********************************************************************
