Thanks to all who replied to my query about LaTeX on
IBM PC's. The clear consensus was EMTEX written by
Eberhardt Mattes. It's not a Windows package, but
can be called from Windows.

I obtained a copy by ftp from monu1.cc.monash.edu.au
and installed it without too much trouble: one of the font library
files was corrupted in transit causing some misleading error
messages, but that was all.

So far it seems a very good package. It was strongly
recommended by other users.

Thanks again,

Ian.
