Latex question... I expected the distance from the top edge of the A4 paper to the top of my 'document' to be 1 inch. A latex book by Buerger and THE latex book (p163) asserts only 1 inch is unused at the top of the document.. The version of Latex I use is LaTeX Version 2.09 <24 May 1989> running on a Personal Iris. This is the page layout I'm using in the preamble.tex file... \topmargin 0mm \headheight 0mm \headsep 0mm \oddsidemargin 0mm \evensidemargin 0mm \marginparsep 0mm \marginparwidth 0mm \footskip 10mm % \textheight 230mm \textheight 235mm % \textwidth 170mm \textwidth 165mm ...the text doesn't want to start any higher up the page than approx 40mm below the top edge, not 25.4mm as expected. A latex book by Buerger and THE latex book (p163) says only 1 inch is unused at the top of the document. This is not a printer fault/problem. The previewers I've used (texsgi for example) show the same text positioning. I'm baffled! Any gurus out there with some suggestions/advice.
