Hi netters,
My boss has asked me to obtain TeX and other related software and replace
the older versions on our Vax cluster running under vms 5.5.
Checking through various ftp sites, I have found some sources for some of this
software. Before I start to suck across these files and install them, I
would be most grateful if experienced souls can comment with regard to the
questions of:
1. are they the latest version, if not, where can I get them
2. any nasties in installing and using the software
3. ease of using the programs
Also, feel free to include other comments.
TeX - v3.1 from ymir.claremont.edu in [tex.sources.tex3_1]
The exe was built under vms 5.3. Do I have to rebuild for vms 5.5?
Our pascal is v4.0 and c is 3.2.
DVIPS - from ymir.claremont.edu in [tex.drivers.dviout]
Is this version by Tony Rokicki? If not, where can I get it.
- from ymir.claremont.edu in [tex.drivers.dvips5_474]
Is the dvips.tar file a vms tar file?
Why is the directory [tex.drivers.dvips5_44] protected from ftp users?
DVITOVDU - from ymir.claremont.edu in [tex.drivers.dvitovdu3_0]
MF - from ymir.claremont.edu in [tex.drivers.mf2_7]
Does it contain a complete set of fonts for mathematicians?
If not, where can I get it?
XFIG - from archie.au in usenet/comp.sources.x/volume1/xfig
How easy for users to use it? Any latest vms version?
Are there any other similar programs and graphic libraries available?
Other questions:
Where are FAQ ftp sites for the comp.text.tex group?
WP2LATEX - Is there a vms version?
