appendix equation numbering

I am currently writing a paper in article style and I am using the \appendix environment to include appendicies. My problem is that the equation numbering continues on from the main body (ie if the last eqn in the main body is 40 the first equation in the appendix will be 41), whereas I want the appendix equations to be numbered A.1, A.2,.... ,B.1, B.2 etc. I know this can be done in report mode, but that results in the abstract, title page etc being placed on separate pages. Thanks in advance, -- Sanjay Mazumdar -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | E-mail : sanjay@eleceng.adelaide.edu.au | | Snail-mail: Dept of Electrical & Electronic Eng., The University of Adelaide |

Well Sanjay I thought I'd answer my own question, just in case others wanted
to know how to do this (a fellow pg in the dept showed me how).
\appendix
\setcounter{equation}{0}
\setcounter{section}{1}
\renewcommand{\theequation}{\thesection.\arabic{equation}}
\renewcommand{\thesection}{\Alph{section}}
\section*{Appendix {\thesection} : ......}
1. This sets the equation counter to label equations as (A.1) etc
2. Note : before each section {new appendix} need to put
\setcounter{equation}{0}
3. Labels appendicies as Appendix A : .....
4. Just having \section{....} will label them as A ....
Hope this helps.
Sanjay
