My apologies for the degree of topicality in melb.general but does any-one
have any information on the status of Channel 31 locally (Melb) and or
nationally? I have looked at Ch31 Melb,- http://www.c31.org.au/new/, but
their last news report is dated August 30, 2007. Community TV forums also
have no new info.

The former Minister for communications seemed set to transfer the station
over to digital when the analogue system is killed, but there does not
appear to be any new info since the federal election. In each state C31
seems to have diminishing support from state governments. There has been
little in the press that I have seen.

I heard on the 3AW rumor file earlier in the week that the Victorian
government is intending to reduce it's involvement (advertising, grants
etc.) and there was a mention in this morning's edition.

Does the federal government intend to allow the stations to migrate only
when analogue service ends (definite date TBA), but only if they are still
broadcasting when that happens?

Are the various state governments reducing their involvement so that
community television will not survive till then?

Regarding topicality; it seems strange to me that there are no new messages
on aus.tv.community. The last post I have seen is dated 21/5 - it hasn't
even had SPAM. Spooky. Should I have also x-posted to alt.conspiracy?  ;-}

 Any help appreciated. TYIA

It is the similarities between people which make communication possible,
It is the the differences between them which make it necessary.

Thanks to Ant for the idea.

You will get a more sensible answer if you direct your message to the email
address given at the C31 website , This newsgroup has been largely abandoned
because of the trolls that loiter here.
