PRELIMINARY AGENDA FOR EFF-AUSTIN DIRECTORS' MEETING - Dec. 8, 1992
To be held at 6:30pm at the business office of Steve Jackson Games
CLOSED SESSION, to last about a half-hour
Discuss vacant positions on Board, as usual.
Discuss Advisory Board. Acceptances? New nominees? Question
from SJ: Don't we need to formally, outside the closed session,
ELECT these people to the Advisory Board? Because the nominating
votes never made it into the minutes, for obvious reasons of privacy.
Elect new officers?
OPEN SESSION, to start about 7:00.
APPROVE MINUTES
REPORT ON EXECUTIVE SESSION
OFFICERS' REPORTS
PRESIDENT -
VP -
SECRETARY - Rita says "thanks for the T-shirt check."
TREASURER - How much money do we have? Do we have a Texas CPA?
Does Quicken work?
CYBERTEX
Still dormant, pending proposals from interested parties?
COMMITTEE AND OTHER REPORTS
Arts Committee: Jon Lebkowsky, (chair), Willard Uncaphur, Bob Anderson, Sandy Stone, Marcos Novak, Vernon Reed, Dave Demaris, Paco Nathan. Robofest info? "Info-freedom" panel? Mailing list working?
BBS Committee: Dave Smith, Donna McLaughlin, Loyd Blankenship. (Earl
Cooley is interested.) Do we have an agreement document for InfoSite
BBSs? Are we on WWIVnet yet? Did anybody ever talk to Earl about what
he could do? Is there anything we can do to help the RETSOF list? We
have a flagship proposal, already copied to the Board: discussion?
Education Committee: Dick Anderson (chair), Smoot. ACC meeting?
Infodisk Committee: Dave Smith (chair), Ed Cavazos. Second edition?
This!Group CD-ROM contact proceeding?
Membership Commitee: Ed Cavazos (chair). Membership procedures
written up?
Network Committee: Smoot (chair), jsq. Do we want to make a point
of having a phone line available at all meetings? Some? Which ones? Was
Smoot's suggestion at the general meeting, to combine the Network and
BBS committees, serious? Do we have an alternate moderator for
austin.eff? Did the FAQ file go to Dave? Any luck on gopher? Members-only mailing list set up and running? (If yes, does this become a Publicity
Committee item?)
Newsletter Committee: Dave Smith. Status of WORD 3?
Police Liaison Committee - Dick Anderson (chair), Smoot, Bruce
Sterling. Any new visits made?
Publicity Committee: Paco Nathan (chair), jonl, SJ, Monica Stephens.
SJ has voice mail box info. Phone tree progress? "Chronicle special
issue" suggestion?
Liaison to Computers And The Law Committee of the Travis County
Bar Association: This is Ed, until May. We'll need to replace him
by then.
Volunteer Coordinator: Donna McLaughlin. Discussion: Is having the VC
staff the table the right answer? Should VC come to board meetings? We
need a job description for the Vol Coordinator. We need lots of job
descriptions. We need to encourage people to contact VC, ESPECIALLY if
they can do any of the following things:
Drive a regular route to drop EFF material off at computer stores.
Help post information on boards for BBS Comm! What else?
PROGRAM PLANNING
Ad-hoc committees for each upcoming meeting:
December Cyberdawg: Tracy LaQuey Parker will sign copies of her
new book, "The Internet Companion." (It's co-authored by Jeanne C. Ryer,
with a foreword by Al Gore.) Willard Uncaphur and Jon Lebkowsky are
organizing this. Will very probably be 2-5pm Dec. 13 at Europa Books.
January Event: Ed Cavazos is organizing, not a panel, but a workshop
on legal issues affecting sysops. Mike Godwin has confirmed that he
will participate. The event will be publicized to the legal
community as well as Central Texas sysops. Probably Jan. 16-17. We
may want to publish a set of "Proceedings," or give disks as handouts,
or both.
February Cyberdawg: Dave Smith will organize this - if possible,
in conjunction with the GTC - maybe at High Time. Jon Lebkowsky is
our liaison with GTC. February 10-12?
March Event: Something in conjunction with Robofest, perhaps?
Dave Smith has started a "cookbook" for EFF-Austin meeting planners,
and will distribute it to the mailing list for comment. Notes from
the general meeting include: List e-mail addresses, for directors,
officers and group info, on the handout. Bring duct tape.
LOCAL ACTIVITY SINCE LAST MEETING
November members meeting. (Ed requested feedback and comment
on the austin.eff list. Did we get any?)
We got some signups there. Any good volunteers?
OTHER OLD BUSINESS
Jon L. was to contact DIR and talk to them.
Ed was to contact the Center for American History
about the NEXT John Henry Faulk conference.
NEW BUSINESS
Regular ACTV show? Susan Cisco recommends we talk to
Alston Boyd @ Communication Cowboy, 472-2869 - he is interested.
Are we interested in having FringeWare sell things for us? Jon
and Paco have a proposal, or at least a suggestion.
There is a PUC workshop Dec. 9. Should we send someone?
COMMUNICATION W/CAMBRIDGE
Status of Confederation Meeting? Yes, this is almost last on the
agenda. Good thing, too.
Are we going? If so, who are we sending and what info do we
provide to Cambridge about "mission, members, etc." per request?
ON THE TABLE
Institutional memberships.
Fund-raising.
CHARTER, BYLAWS, INCORPORATION
CALL ROLL, SET NEXT MEETING DATE AND TIME
ADJOURN about 10 pm, we hope.
