I just got back from the EFF meeting in Atlanta, and following the brief summaries by Jon and Dave, here's my take: All in all, very positive. EFF was fragmented in its approach and now seems much more focused. However, it was much less fragmented than I, at least, had thought, and has actually been carrying on some very effective lobbying in Washington. (This is where most of the dangers to cyberspace come from and where our battles are going to have to be fought.) The problem has largely been one of communications with the membership. EFF has been slaying dragons and keeping quiet about it. They've also been remiss in pointing out the other dragons lurking inside the Beltway. I think this situation is about to change, and that we're going to be hearing considerably more about what EFF is doing, and why. No one--including me--is going to agree with every position EFF takes, but I think we're all going to feel a lot better about working with them and that, as time goes on, we're going to be awfully glad they're out there.
