IMO there is one system only for NT, discreet logic edit* . That said, here is a message found on compuserve user group: --------------------------------------------------------------------- In an apparent attempt to avoid responsibility to fix long-standing bugs in MCXpress NT and to finally deliver the product promised in their previous advertising, AVID has moved MCXpress NT to its "Consumer and Office Products" division. Other products handled by this division are the under $300 Avid Cinema consumer multi-media product. In addition, to hide the anger and high level of user dissatisfaction with the product development and support, AVID moved the MCXpress forum to a new location on the Avid Online BBS. In the process, they removed all messages critical of Avid or the product, including suggestions for enhancements and bug reports. They have further ruled that all such messages are prohibited from posting in the technical support forum. (One wonders, what then, is permissible to post there). Avid supposedly will allow such requests and reports to be sent to a special email address, mcxwin-support@avid.com. However, based on AVID's adamant refusal to incorporate user requests in the latest 1.6 upgrade, and its removal of MCXpress from consideration as a professional product that produces "online" or "broadcast" quality output, it is doubtful that any messages sent to that address will, in fact, actually reach a human for consideration. Also in the move, a separate folder within the forum that was set up for "off-topic" discussions, like bug reports, feature requests, support requests, and discussion of the product's future, was deleted. Since these topics are now no longer allowed on the AVID BBS, this folder will not be reconstituted in the new forum. As one Avid dealer, Grant Delahoy, said on the BBS in response to the new forum policies, "Keep these other wingers off the forum so I can recommend clients to use it!" This seems to indicate a continued desire on the part of AVID and its dealers to keep prospective clients in the dark regarding the problems within the program, and its abhorrent lack of support by AVID. This move by AVID also demonstrates the company's willingness to continue to sell a product as meeting professional editors needs at the same time the product is internally being "re-purposed" to a totally different market, and to abandon the users of that product in the process. It is clear to many MCXpress NT users that this move was done purposely to avoid fixing the more severe bugs, and providing the more important features that were to be a part of the product but never were incorporated. (E.g. to provide proper field rendering of effects that were supposedly "Online" or "Broadcast" quality rather than field doubling to get a full frame of video.) Prospective AVID product purchasers should take into account AVID's apparent philosophy that advertised features and functionality can be left out of the delivered product, and if pressed by the users, can be "fixed" by re-purposing the product with no major design changes or new releases, to a market where the advertised features can be rationalized as "not necessary". Also support policies that forbid public discussion of feature requests and bug reports should be considered when determining how the company views its commitment to supporting the product. The essential moral of the AVID MCXpress history is, "AVID product purchasers - BEWARE!" --------------------------------------------- IMO, if you want to get serious on NT, have a close look at discreet logic edit* IT IS AWESOME!!!!!
