JL cooper and xl on nt

I have the MC 1000XL on NT and want to connect the JL
cooper fadmaster to it.  The setup guide says to connect it
to the joystick port using a Joystick to Midi converter and
it should work.  It does not work.  Tech support has been
no help.  Has anyone tried this on the Symphony or Xpress
on nt?
