I am looking to build my own computer. I have noticed in reading various articles that some slower machines actually out perform faster rated machines in benchmark tests. For example, I have read reviews (such as in Byte, PC magazine) comparing two different systems. At times they state that a 133 MHZ machine runs faster than a 166 MHz machine. What can cause this to be, is it the controller cards being used such as SCSI verses EIDE, or is it tweaking the BIOS or some other system parameters? Is it possible to build a system that competes with the power systems sold on the market? I am considering buying a Cyrix p200 (None of these pieces are etched in rock as to the certainty of me purchasing them), SCSI control cards, a top of the line video card, SCSI hard drive, and the Ram I have not decided as to what is the best. This could be determined by what type of mother board I get, so I would appreciate suggestions on what is the best RAM as well. I would appreciate all suggestions on the best components and system configurations that will help me build a GREAT machine. That includes Operating Software also, such as Windows or FreeBSD. Thanks, Dean daa@usa.net
