 > TAZ INJURED...WILL HE MISS THE PPV? According to 1wrestling.com,
 > Taz suffered a serious cut to his leg at the ECW Arena show. The injury
 > happened as he was leaving the ring and caught his leg on a piece of the
 > ring apron. The cut went all the way to the bone and took 18 stitches to
 > close. Doctors told Taz he would need to take a minimum of 4 weeks off to
 > recover. Taz had been expected to face Chris Chetti at the PPV. If he is
 > unable to compete, he may do color
 > commentary with Joey Styles or may just make an appearance to do an interview.
 > OTHER 1WRESTLING.COM NOTES FROM ECW ARENA: Shane Douglas missed the

 > SPRING STAMPEDE REPORT by Michael Tyler,
 > WCW News Editor <mat2mtt@atlas.vcu.edu>
 > -----------------------------------------
 > In a night filled with sub-par wrestling due to altitude, three
 > main event matches delivered in angles. Perhaps, the most shocking event
 > took place
 > when Randy Savage pinned Sting to win the WCW World Heavyweight Title. It
 > was a shocking turn events which saw Hollywood Hogan purposely trip up
 > Savage while attempting the Elbow Trop of Doom. However, Kevin Nash was
 > standing by ready to deliver the knockout blow to Sting and possibly
 > establish a new leader in the New World Order, or at least a major shift
 > in leadership. Hogan and the Disciple watched from the entranceway as
 > Kevin Nash powerbombed Sting in a no-DQ match and aiding Savage to
 > victory. Liz was injured during a Stinger splash during the match.
 > The animosity peaked during Giant & Roddy Piper vs. Hollywood Hogan &
 > Kevin Nash after Hogan accidentally nailed Nash with the bat, then
 > purposely on Nash's powerbomb attempt on Giant. The match focused around
 > obtaining the bat, but yet provided very good wrestling considering the
 > wrestlers involved. This was a fun match until the Disciple appeared at
 > ringside to aid to a bad screwjob ending with Hogan pinning Piper. In the
 > moment of the night, Giant gave Hogan a well deserved spanking.
 > The best match of the night saw Raven upset Diamond Dallas Page to
 > win the United States Heavyweight Title with help from Hollywood Hogan's
 > cousin,
 > Horace Boulder. Raven's Flock threw everything in their arsenal against
 > Page including the proverbial kitchen sink. Cowbells were used, a kitchen
 > sink was demolished, a frying pan was smashed on Page's head, the match
 > featured weapons galore. If that wasn't enough, Page tossed Raven on to a
 > referee from the top of a stagecoach! The match basically demolished
 > everything, the VIP section, the scenery and the WCW web site. In one
 > word, the match was dramatic. Close pinfall attempts, multiple outside
 > interference, the stop sign, it was just a great match with a sort of
 > anti-climatic ending.
 > * Booker T pinned Chris Benoit with a Harlem sidekick over the
 > referee's
 > head to retain the WCW World television Title. Benoit dominated throughout
 > with vicious suplexes, clotheslines, chops and other signature moves. When
 > Booker T decided to go for the axe kick, Benoit shoved the referee into
 > it. Benoit then slapped on the crossface crippler, but gained no
 > submission victory while the referee was out cold. Booker T then won the
 > match.
 > * Chris Jericho retained the WCW Cruiserweight Title by successfully
 > forcing Prince Iaukea to submit to the Lion Tamer and adding another trophy
 > to his collection.
 > * Lex Luger & Rick Steiner defeated Scott Steiner & Buff Bagwell when
 > Bagwell submitted to the human torture rack backbreaker. Bagwell wore a
 > cast to avoid wrestling, but after grabbing JJ Dillon by the tie, Buff &
 > Scott were forced to wrestle.
 > * Curt Hennig defeated British Bulldog in a God awful match. Vince
 > posed
 > as Denver's finest and handcuffed Jim Neidhart to the corner. Rick Rude,
 > Hennig and Vince pummeled the Anvil and Bulldog.
 > * El Ultimo Dragon forced Chavo Guerrero Jr. to submit to the dragon
 > sleeper. Chavo had several opportunities for victory, but never followed
 > up. Afterwards, Eddie scorned Chavo.
 > * Bill Goldberg pinned Saturn with the jackhammer in a 10-minute match.
 > Goldberg appeared winded throughout.
 > * Psicosis gained revenge by cleanly pinning La Parka in an
 > unadvertised
 > match.

 > ECW Report by Indigo <dnl@nb.net, http://1indigo.simplenet.com>
 > ---------------------------------------------------------------
 > Hello fans of ECW! This is Indigo, here with the ECW Television report
 > for this week. We are less than two weeks away from ECW's biggest Pay
 > Per View so far this year, Wrestlepalooza '98! Last year's Wrestlepalooza
 > saw the WWF's Jerry "The King" Lawler, show up in the ECW Arena, to
 > begin his fued with the Innovator of Violence, Tommy Dreamer. Sabu and
 > Rob Van Dam also joined forces with Jerry Lawler to take out every
 > wrestler in the ECW locker room that night.
 > This night also had Tommy Dreamer fight Raven in a loser-leaves-ECW
 > match, and the infamous rematch from ECW's first Pay Per View, Barely
 > Legal, as Taz fought not only Sabu, but also The Franchise Shane Douglas,
 > and defeated Douglas in less than three minutes to become the ECW World
 > Television Champion.
 > The next few weeks will lead up to what will be a great PPV this year,
 > as many matches have been announced. New Jack will fight Bam Bam Bigelow,
 > Chris Candido and Lance Storm will defend the tag straps against Balls
 > Mahoney and Axl Rotten, newely crowned ECW TV Champion Rob Van Dam will
 > have to defend the belt against his own tag partner, Sabu, and the main
 > event pitts Al Snow, and his head, against ECW World Champ Shane Douglas.
 > This week's ECW came to us from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We
 > started this week's show off with Joel Gertner introducing... the
 > Bushwackers!?!?!
 > They aren't Dudleys! Well... anyways The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer are
 > their opponents. Luke and Butch return to the ring? The Sandman and Dreamer
 > were ready to fight, but the REAL Dudleys came in and beat on them. The
 > Sandman and Dreamer had been set up by Joel Gertner and the Dudleys!
 > Dreamer and The Sandman were both victims of 3D, the Dudley Death Drop!
 > Sign Guy poured beer on the Sandman and Tommy Dreamer's fallen bodies.
 > 2 Cold! 2 Cold came in to the aid of his tag partner the Sandman, but
 > was stopped cold in his tracks by Big Dick. Just two weeks before
 > the PPV, the Dudley Boys have made their mark in ECW.
 > We return to video of The Sandman recieving medical attention in
 > the ring, stopping the program in its tracks. So, we went to a video
 > package of
 > Rob Van Dam from last week's show, when he fought Bam Bam Bigelow for
 > the TV Title, and successfully defeated him to become the new champ.
 > We return from the commercial break with Fan Cam footage of Van Dam and
 > Sabu wrestling on ECW's tour of Florida. Sabu fought Fatu, but Rob
 > Van Dam shoved off Sabu, and was dressed as Sabu, and pinned Fatu! Obvious
 > heat was between thest two atheletes.
 > The Sandman's wife Lori Fullington had tears roling down her face as
 > The Sandman had been strapped up on a stretcher, and had a neck brace on,
 > and needed a respirator as he was being attended to in the back.
 > Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten were in the ring, as Lance Storm came from
 > behind, and layed out both men with steel chairs, and he layed out
 > Chris Candido too! Oh wait, the match just started now? Candido was
 > layed out, and Balls made a cover, but Lance Storm broke it up! Balls
 > must have gotten injured during the commercial break, and Axl Rotten
 > took on the tag champs by himself, and was kicking butt! Lance Storm
 > hit Axl with an elbow, and was ready to make the pin when Candido
 > pushed Storm over and he pinned Axl himself! Afterwards... what the?
 > Danny Doring and Angry Amish Roadkill came out and said that they
 > were the next contendors for the ECW World Tag Team Champions! Axl quickly
 > laid them out with chairs. Candido beat up Storm outside, then
 > got inside the ring and said that he wanted a singles match against
 > his partner! Candido and Storm had a match! Candido beat the crap
 > out of a battered and bruised Storm. Candido and Storm exchanged many
 > vicious knife-edged chops. Lance Storm blocked the Blonde Bombshell
 > and Candido went for a hurricarana and was countered with a powerbomb, and
 > Storm pinned Candido for the win!
 > We looked at 4 or 5 different angles of The Sandman's vicious fall on
 > his head during a 3D, the Dudley Death Drop, which almost looked
 > like he snapped his neck. The Sandman was being wheeled toward the
 > ambulance, and being carted away in the ambulance on his way to the
 > hospital.
 > Fan Cam takes us outside when The Triple Threat met up with Candido
 > after his match against Storm, and Candido said that Storm said a bunch
 > of bad stuff on them, and the Triple Threat was going to beat him up.
 > We return to video of The Triple Threat beating on John Kronus and
 > Chris Chetti in the ring. Shane Douglas began a verbal tirade against
 > Chetti. This angered Taz, and he came out, and faced off with Shane Douglas.
 > Taz slapped his cousin Chetti! And then he T-Bone Tazplexed him! Trash
 > talking exchanged between the two atheletes. Douglas said that he doesn't
 > deserve a title shot, and that he is just a jabroney. Shane said
 > that he wanted Taz to snap his arm to claim his fame. Shane
 > humiliated him, he antagonized him, and finally Tazs snapped his arm!
 > Bigelow went all over Taz and began to fight him all over the arena, as
 > this week's ECW TV Show went off the air. But, the only thing that leaves
 > us hanging is... will Shane Douglas be able to defend against Al Snow at
 > Wrestlepalooza '98???
 >
 > ============================================
 > ECW Arena results from 4/18/98
 > by Jeff Bradley (rbradley@bellatlantic.net)
 > --------------------------------------------
 > 1- Joey Styles comes to the ring and says he has bad news. Shane
 > Douglas was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery last night and
 > will not be able to defend his title vs. Sabu tonight. He says that he has
 > full
 > confidence though that Paul Heyman will make the show worth staying for
 > though. Taz comes to the ring and babbles as usual, saying how the fans may
 > want Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko and others, but he's been busting his
 > butt for awhile now and will get a title shot eventually. Styles asks Taz
 > what is wrong with him and Taz threatens to choke him out but says he will
 > spare him, and knocks Styles down. The refs come to the ring to separate
 > Taz. Pee Wee Moore confronts Taz only to be suplexed to the outside of the
 > ring. Pee Wee Moore was stretchered out as Taz returned to the back.
 > 2- Super Nova & Blue Meanie beat The FBI (Smothers & Guido) (with
 > Tommy
 > Rich) by pinfall. Nova and Meanie actually looked good again as they did on
 > TV in recent weeks and put on a very good match in going over on FBI.
 > 3- Jerry Lynn & Chris Chetti defeated Danny Doring & Roadkill (with Mr.
 > Wright and his new bodyguard, who wasn't mentioned by name but wrestles in
 > New Jersey indies as The Equalizer). Doring put up with chants of "Bret
 > Hart wannabe" during the match. At one point Roadkill and Doring executed
 > the Hart Foundation's Hart Attack maneuver from the '80s and Doring then
 > mocked Bret. Lynn and Chetti were victorious in the end however.
 > 4- Axl Rotten pinned Chris Candido (with Francine). One section of the
 > crowd started chanting "We did Sunny!" before the match. Candido looked
 > bored and took the mic and said "Ya know, I hear the same thing every 3
 > weeks, why don't you get a life?" .... He then singled one fan out and said
 > "You, yeah you with the straw hat. She told me you were the best! Thanks
 > for warming her up for me!" .... Candido then tossed the mic down and
 > started to wrestle. In the end Axl got the pinfall over Candido. Francine
 > came in and was about to get beat up by Axl until Bigelow made the save.
 > Balls Mahoney then tried to save Axl but was laid out by Bigelow and had to
 > be stretchered out.
 > 5- Spike Dudley went up against Justin Credible (with Jason, Nicole
 > Bass, & Chastity) next. Credible got on the mic and said 4 1/2 years ago he
 > wrestled as P.J. Walker, but that was a phase. Then 2 years ago he was Aldo
 > Montoya, the Portugese Man O' War as he was moving his way up. But now, he
 > is Justin Credible, "and let me tell you, I am just that, just incredible.
 > As my good friend Scott Hall tells me, when you are just incredible, you are
 > just incredible for life!" ...... Spike then enters the ring and the match
 > begins with referee Jeff Jones. Spike ends up knocking out Jeff Jones and
 > things went crazy after that leading to Spike being triple teamed. Mikey
 > Whipwreck runs in to make the save and is confronted by Nicole Bass. Mikey
 > challenges Nicole to hit him and she does twice. Then Mikey finally has
 > enough and gives her a neck breaker laying her out. Justin Credible comes
 > back in and a match is started. This match ends with Credible giving Mikey
 > the tombstone piledriver for the victory.
 > 6- New Jack pinned Darren Drozdov (with Mr. Wright). Drozdov was
 > actually pretty decent for his first time in the Arena in a brawl that went
 > over the Arena.
 > 7- Al Snow defeated Sabu (with Bill Alfonso) when Rob Van Dam threw
 > in the towel. Sabu cut open his eye and was bleeding, but not heavily.
 > Van Dam
 > came to ringside after Sabu was ready to pin Snow. As the ref counted 1-2-
 > and was about to hit 3, Van Dam threw in the towel giving Snow the win.
 > 8- The Dudleys (with Joel Gertner) then came to the ring and talked
 > about how they laid out the Sandman. Joel Gertner said Sandman was in a
 > hospital in Florida, so there will be no Legend of Hardcore tonight, just a
 > Legend of Hard (himself, Gertner). He said if Sandman has any friends,
 > send them out. Tommy Dreamer and 2 Cold Scorpio came to the ring to wrestle
 > the Dudleys. Surprisingly, despite the rumors, Beulah WAS at ringside with
 > Dreamer and Scorpio. The referee was knocked out in this match as well and
 > the Dudleys
 > cornered Beulah in the ring. Just as they moved in on her the lights went
 > out. When the lights came back on, The Sandman was standing there in a neck
 > brace with his cane. The Dudleys were shocked that The Sandman was there
 > and left the ring, causing a no contest.
 > 9- Rob Van Dam (with Bill Alfonso) successfully defended his ECW TV
 > title by pinfall over Bam Bam Bigelow. This match too went all over the
 > Arena. In the end, Bigelow got a hold of Alfonso and threw him into the
 > second row of
 > the crowd. As Bigelow celebrated this feat, Van Dam rolled him up from
 > behind for the pinfall and the victory.
 >
