Oh, and it's understandable > about Savage's rage, and he's about the only one I DON'T blame for being > upset with Bret. As Miss Carrie of O.E. so eloquently pointed out > in her latest article, I too had been thinking about how Bischoff has > (what I call) the dis-"stink"-tion of being the guy who couldn't market > a wrestler named Steve Williams in black tights and black boots a few > years ago. Now > to really impress me, put Goldberg up against some recognized WCW power- > houses like Scott "Big Poppa Pump" Steiner, Scott "Flash" Norton, Rick > Steiner, Kevin Nash, "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, Lex Luger, or even > The Giant! Then we'll see not only more credibility but maybe more respect > for this fast-rising rookie. Many people apparently aren't truly buying > it, Bischoff, this, your newest "wonder". You're still no "star-maker" > as McMahon has been. I told one other writer that sometimes I think "WCW", > "World Championship Wrestling", could stand instead for "Wrestling Careers > Wrecked." Not because I wish it so on any of the WCW or nWo athletes - > but because of how I see Bischoff's mishandling of so damn much talent. > > Finally, one other situation regarding "perception" has stood out in my > mind the past few weeks: Cactus Jack, say it ain't so!! Why WERE the > fans chanting "Austin, Austin" that night when you and Terry Funk/"Chainsaw > Charlie" were (again) being decimated and robbed of the tag team titles > that night after Wrestlemania? I think the fans were wanting "Stone Cold" > to come out and HELP you guys - that was all!! Of course in retrospect, maybe it > would've been better had the fans been chanting "WE WANT Austin", but > anyway I think a case of misunderstanding and mis-perception has not only > robbed us of seeing the great hardcore persona of Cactus Jack, but also > robbed us of one more fun face in the WWF - Dude Love! Who'd have ever > thought a few months ago we'd hear WWF fans chanting "Dude Love sucks!!"? > Not me! Wrestling IS real - and it IS scripted too - but I think a lot > of what is real is ALSO tied into perception.
