Dialup is Kb/s. A 56K modem is actually capped at about 50Kb/s and can
push about 5KB/second.

I haven't had any security problems, but I also have a 'router' between
my cable modem and home LAN. It acts as a simple firewall.

DSL has better security than DSL as you have a dedicated line between you
and the main office. However, DSL means having to use Qwest. I've personally
found DSL less reliable than cable internet. Either is such a huge
improvement over dial up that you'll never want to go back.
