Internet Users Consortium - ALERT! Sunday 3/10/96
http://www.iuc.org/www/molsen/

ALERT! Join the Communications Decency Act court challenge.

The Citizens Internet Empowerment Coalition (CIEC - pronounced "seek") is
a coalition of Internet users, businesses, non-profit organizations and
civil liberties advocates formed to challenge the constitutionality of the
Communications Decency Act because they believe it violates their free
speech rights and condemns the Internet to a future of burdensome
censorship and government intrusion. Joining the CIEC as an individual
Internet user is a simple as filling out a form.

You will be in good company. Join WIRED and HotWired, Apple, Microsoft,
the American Library Association, the Society of Professional Journalists,
and tens of thousands of concerned citizens in suing the Department of
Justice to halt the CDA's clampdown on Net speech.

The special report cuts through the "Net sleaze" smoke screen that allowed
the passage of such an outrageous violation of the Bill of Rights. Mike
Godwin, counsel for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, explains why the
lawsuit will consign the CDA to the trash heap of unsound laws, and
HotWired editor Steve Silberman lays out the historical context of this
struggle to defend online freedom from the latest power grab by the
Religious Right.

Take a few minutes and sign the co-plaintiff form at the URL:

NorthStar keeps you informed and on the lookout for the invasive
legislation the government enforces. If you want to stay informed about
this and other key Internet issues, subscribe to NorthStar. NorthStar is
the bi-weekly e-zine of the Internet Users Consortium that gives you the
story from the perspectives of those who feel the full brunt of government
abuse. Corporate media devalues us in its pro-government portrayal of
every news tidbit. What's left out is how current legislation effects you
and I - The Internet Users.
