the BOMB project -- http://members.tripod.com/~ToeGristle/bomb1.htm Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce the alpha version of what I'm calling "the BOMB project," an idea I am working on which was sparked by a few recent messages on this list. The name comes from the digital images I've created specifically for this project. All these images (they should technically be called digital collage) were created in Photoshop using bits and pieces of imagery taken from news sites on the web about the Iraqi bombings. The compositions I have come up with do not necessarily comment on the bombings, but all of the source material comes from the media's recording of this event. What is a new experiment for me is the interface given to the user to view this digital series. Using JavaScript, (which I'm just beginning to learn,) the HTML page randomly selects one, two or three images from an "image pool." Also each image links to another page that randomly selects another layout from the same image pool. By looping through the same few pages, the user/viewer is treated to a completely random and unique viewing experience. The random juxtaposition of these images is built in to the program. My goal in this is to create an amorphous, unpredictable, work of art that is unique to the world wide web. This project will constantly be changing and growing because I can always add more and more images to the "pool," or remove or edit some, or change different possible layouts. So it is still in an early stage, there are surely some things to smooth out, but I feel it is ripe enough to debut. Please take a look and click through it a few times. You will no doubt see the same image duplicated every once in a while, but for the most part you will see completely random juxtapositions of the BOMB series so far. I also invite you to view the source code to see how its done. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. A discussion on how the unpredictable juxtaposition of these images affects the viewing experience would be very helpful to me and this project. Thanks for your time! the BOMB project -- http://members.tripod.com/~ToeGristle/bomb1.htm sincerely, Corey http://members.tripod.com/~ToeGristle/home.htm
