Beware the (finally!) warm temps

My son and I did 106 miles today, not much different from prior Sunday
rides, except that today the ride dragged a bit in the middle, and I
noticed when I got home the tell-tale signs of too much sun & heat and
not enough water (hair soaked and scalp felt like ice). Basically didn't
drink enough and not used to warmer temps (high of about 90, which isn't
that hot after all).

Point being, we've been riding in colder-than-normal weather for some
time, and we're getting hit with "real" summer weather without any time
to get used to it. Make sure when you're out there that you've done the
sunscreen thing and drink lots of water, never letting your mouth get
that dry feeling if you can possibly avoid it. And maybe you'll need to
take it a little bit easier than expected, or just realize that if you
feel like you got run over, you might still be in decent shape, just
suffering from the elements a bit. This too shall pass.

Thanks for the advice Mike. Just returned from my evening ride
(Portola Valley Loop) and suffered the same fate. Ran out of water at
Pagemill/Foothill Expressway. Was glad to have a slight tail wind
southbound on my way back. I'm just hard headed at times. I really
hate riding with two water bottles. The bike just feels weird with it
(probably all mental).
