Near the end of march Howell Mtn Rd was closed for the most part because a section of it collapsed. photo: http://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/article_070266de-57d2-11e0-864e-001cc4c002e0.html?mode=story Does anyone if it's passable on a road bike? Is it only a small section as depicted in the photo or ??? The closure is for most of the road, but I assume (without having any basis) that that's because there's nothing that needs access on that stretch. ------------- news article ------------------ “Old” Howell Mountain Road was closed Saturday starting at 10 a.m. between White Cottage Road and Conn Valley Road due to erosion, the Napa County Sheriff’s Department said. “It’s impassable at this time,” Napa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Joel Wilkinson said. “Nobody can travel on the road right now,” he said. The side of the mountain is eroding on the road, Wilson said. The road also dropped 2 feet south of the “Four Corners,” he said, referring to the area where Deer Park Road turns into the stretch of Howell Mountain Road that leads to Angwin. Wilkinson said it is unknown when the road will reopen.

About 3 weeks ago I was at Deer Park and Howell, and there was a sign saying the road was closed near the top. While waiting around at least 4 bikers passed through coming up Howell. Nobody was headed down so they must have been able to pass coming up.
