Over in ba.broadcast, it's been posted that, according to one of their host
s, Cumulus execs are unhappy with poor ratings at KGO. As one who used to l
isten constantly, I'm not surprised.

The only daily talkshow host left is Ronn Owens, and even he's been MIA w/
laryngitis since Tuesday, resulting in Tim "Monty" Montemayor filling in fo
r him.

While I'll admit that "Monty" has improved his skills as a non-sports talks
how host for KGO, he's still abrasive and largely unlistenable, IMO. Also,
he has a tendency to stifle callers by either taking as few as possible, or
else cutting them off after a few sentences, especially if they disagree w
ith him. Increasingly, Montemayor seems to be the "go-to guy" for Ronn's fi
ll-ins, as opposed to Copie, Pat and others who've been there longer. Karel
has mentioned that Ronn will not let him (Karel) *ever* fill-in for the 9a
m-12noon daily show.

If Cumulus is trying to kill off their talk-show listenership completely, t
hey're doing a dany job of it, IMO.
