Still, as an experiment I think it's worth a try. You don't understand: It's not an experiment. There is no group-removal process; starting a new group is the same as carving something in stone without drawing it in pencil first. Every group ever officially created in Usenet is still there, taking up space on hundreds of thousands of machines across the globe. Obviously, not as many people will pick up a ba.* group, but you'll notice that we have posters from outside the Bay Area, so we're still talking a substantial number of machines. That's why this matters. >And the tired, territorial responses of some of the bad old boys show >adequately enough the need for novelty in these here parts. How did this suddenly get gender-linked? As I've said before, I don't care much either way, but the fact that X, Y, or Z doesn't see the point of a booze group is hardly proof of cliqueishness. Moreover, accusations of cliqueishness are generally a guaranteed way to kill a new group proposal in a voting environment. In any environment, it's the rhetorical equivalent of forgetting to throw the grenade in your hand. I'm xposting this back to ba.food in the hopes that the two regulars who were complaining to me about hootchie-threads will come out of the woodwork, finally.
