They are a venture capital funded start up.  The majority of the
funding is from Mayfield Fund, an established respected venture
capital firm. The company is building products for the data base
application market.

They are in the early start up phase.  The high level design of the
first product has been completed and implementation is beginning.
Engineers who join the company now are getting in on the ground floor
and will have exceptional design freedom.  The company currently has
seven employees, five of which are in Engineering.  The organization
is flat with all engineers reporting to the Vice-President of
Engineering, that organization is expected to remain until the first
product is delivered.  The company expects to deliver its first
product in the second quarter of 1997.

Product
The first relations product is for sites who have implemented specific
mission critical, client/server data base applications, such as SAP
R/3, Oracle Applications, and PeopleSoft products.  This is a hot
market representing a significant opportunity for applications
management tools.  Sites have routinely spent tens of millions of
dollars implementing such systems before going into production.
Relations intends to provide them tools to manage these systems in
production.  While specific product plans are confidential at this
time, the product is targeted at data center management.

Software Engineer- Database Utilities Refer to job  Tion 96-1

This person will design and implement a major component of Relations
first product from the existing high level design specification.  They
will design and implement the data base schema, including the
installation, maintenance and data loading utilities for the product's
data repository.

The component will be implemented using Microsoft Visual C++ and the
Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) as well as Rogue Wave Tools H++ and
DBT tools H++ on Windows NT Server.  The product will support several
data bases the first being Oracle followed by Informix, Sybase, and
Microsoft SQL Server.

The candidate should have a least 1 year if C++ programming experience
and 5 years of general programming experience.  Experience writing
efficient SQL program is important as large amounts of data will be
loaded and stored in the repository.


Because the candidate will be building components to maintain the
system, knowledge of data base and NT system administration will be
useful.

Network programming, particularly TCP socket programming, may also be
needed in the part of the product although it is not currently
expected.

Experience working for a software tools vendor is desirable since the
company's market is closely related.

Candidates should desire to work in a start up environment.  They
should enjoy completing partially defined specifications and know how
to research problems to find answers to difficult questions.  he
should enjoy tackling and learning new technology, software, and
systems.  They are a team environment but particular areas of the
project will be owned by a specific engineer.
