17" LCD Planar versus Samsung - need opinion

Hi I need to make a choice between a Planar 1744NU and a Samsung SyncMaster 172N. Both seem reasonable enough. The Planar is less bright at 220 cd versus Samsung's 250 cd. Is this difference significant enough to make viewing a pain in one and a joy in the other? Any other helpful hints would be appreciated.
