Look who's coming to The Booksmith this month:

FORREST J ACKERMAN
Tuesday // December 9 // 7pm

Forrest J Ackerman's accomplishments are legendary: his first published
story, "A Trip to Mars," appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle in
1929; he published Ray Bradbury's first story in 1938; he has authored
and edited numerous books and magazines, including the seminal "Famous
Monsters of Filmland"; he has appeared in 53 sci-fi and horror films;
received the first ever Hugo Award (one of six in his career); and even
coined the term "sci-fi." Recently, he was awarded the 1997 Bram Stoker
Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Now, join us in celebration of "Forrest J Ackerman's World of Science
Fiction" (hardback, $30.00) with a special appearance and booksigning by
this legendary author, editor, collector and "Number One Fan
Personality." This new book is the long awaited pictorial which
documents "Mr. Sci-Fi's" own collection of science fiction and movie
memorabilia. The Booksmith will be the first store in the country to
have this book!

A copy of Ackerman's recent "Ackermanthology: 65 Astonishing,
Rediscovered Sci-fi Shorts" (paperback, $12.95) will be awarded to the
customer with the best movie or tv monster costume!

We will be giving away a signed full-color, limited printing, two-sided
poster with the purchase of Ackerman's new book, as well as free Forrest
Ackerman trading cards.

As always, our events are free and located at our San Francisco store
(1644 Haight Street, between Clayton & Cole). If you are unable to
attend this event and are interested in purchasing a signed book, please
let us know via email at read@booksmith.com We gladly accept special
orders and ship worldwide. Thanks, and hope to see you there!
