X-PLICIT PLAYERS ADDRESS BERKELEY ANTI-NUDITY ORDINANCE AMENDMENT At 2 in the morning(!) on Wednesday, 8 July the Berkeley City Council voted to amend the city's anti-nudity ordinance to an infraction, in order to eliminate the possibility of jury trials for people accused of violating the ordinance. The amendment also removes the language mentioning the inapplicability of the ordinance to Constitutionally-protected behaviors. This was the first reading of the proposal, so the vote in favor (5-3, 1 abstention) does not cause it to become law. The council has to vote on it again at a second reading, which will very likely happen next Tuesday, 14 July. Maybe they'll ratify it and maybe they won't... As part of our response to this travesty, the X-plicit Players are sponsoring a NUDE RALLY AND PERFORMANCE at 6 pm on Tuesday 14 July (before the council meeting) ON THE LAWN IN FRONT OF THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS at the corner of Center St. and Martin Luther King Way, in beautiful downtown Berkeley. All those who care about Nude Rights, Due Process of Law, Personal Freedom, or The US Constitution's Bill of Rights are warmly invited to attend. NOTE: Clothed people are always welcome.
