In article <bsmartCoA9IM.6rp@netcom.com>, <bsmart@netcom.com> writes: > My understanding is that the client side of this version of Mosaic (called > Secure Mosaic) which will be available about 9/94 WILL be released into the > public domain and be included by CommerceNet in their "Starter Kits"...Bill At the CommerceNet press conference it was stated that all the developments of the project will be public domain, reference implementations, open to all to use and build upon. There will be opportunities for any individual company to proceed to ruggedize, enhance and otherwise commercialize the public domain versions if they think there is a business case. As well, the specification for the secure version of HTTP will be an open specification, so totally different clients or servers (e.g. not NCSA Mosaic-based) can be developed.
