Project Associate
Smart Valley, Inc.

F I R M D E S C R I P T I O N

Smart Valley, Inc. is a non-profit member-supported trade
association. Its mission is to demonstrate and deliver the
real-world benefits of a regional version of the National
Information Infrastructure (NII: the information highway).
Such a regional infrastructure will enhance the global
competitiveness and quality of life for the San Francisco
Bay area.

Smart Valley fulfills its mission in part by catalyzing and
facilitating the formation of technology consortia in
response to funding opportunities, typically at the federal
level. Such Smart Valley projects pursue the development
and deployment of new information highway capabilities using
the Internet as the infrastructure platform. Smart Valley
provides operational, tactical and strategic support to
consortia, helping ensure that they successfully achieve
project objectives.

The Project Associate will work under the direct supervision
of Michael McRay, Project Coordinator, on two of Smart
Valleys flagship initiatives:

Bay Area Digital GeoResource (BADGER) -- This project
focuses on simplifying the acquisition and sharing of
digital geographic data. The BADGER system will provide
satellite and aerial imagery, maps and databases to
municipalities, utilities and other commercial,
environmental and non-profit interests. The vision of
BADGER is to use the Internet to market and access
geographic data, enabling organizations to leverage shared
resources and to develop Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) at a reduced cost with increased accuracy.

CommerceNet -- CommerceNet is a non-profit consortium,
launched with the support of Smart Valley, that is
facilitating the use of an Internet-based infrastructure for
electronic commerce. Launched in April 1994, CommerceNet
now has over 100 commercial, educational, non-profit and
government entities as members. Through the deployment of
pilot projects, the authoring of position papers and the
exploration of issues such as security and business process
re-engineering, CommerceNet is positioned as the premier
forum for the development of Internet commerce.
