Thanks to volunteer John Graham, who put together a fascinating
CU-SeeMe live demo for the CBS program "Up to the Minute". He
wove Smart Valley into the piece, and the way CU-SeeMe can be
used in our Smart Schools program.

> The arrival of Windows 95 will certainly speed up the multi-media
> boom, but the time has already arrived when you can call up your
> Aunt Mary---and see her while you talk. Software called CU-See Me
> will put you in touch, via the internet--with audio and video. And
> now, the software is becoming available ---with audio and
> video---for Windows computers. Until now---only Macintosh computers
> handled CU-See Me with both audio and video.
> The CU stands for Cornell University, where this software was
> developed.
> Our guests to show us the software were Richard Cogger of Cornell
> University, the engineering project manager ...and Forrest Milkowski
> of White Pine Software, which is developing a commercial version of
> The program. They took the UTTM television audience on a CU-See Me
> tour, stopping to talk to people in the San Francisco area , the San
> Diego area, and peeking in at the CU-See Me reflector site at
> Cornell, where a normal nightly CU-See Me party was in progress. We
> spoke via CU-See Me to Yvonne Andres, in the San Dego area, who
> represents Global Schoolhouse dedicated to using the internet to
> link children and teachers throughout the world, and John Graham, an
> Internet Consultant in San Jose, California, and a member of the
> Smart Valley Foundation, which is pursuing its vision of a wired
> community (homes, schools, business and government) in the Bay Area.
> Dick Cogger predicted that this technology would be used far more
> widely within a short time; that people would use it much as then
> now do the telephone. Forrest Milkowski said phone companies hadnt
> shown any fear about this but instead had expressed interest in
> utilizing it, first to link their employes together, but later, for
> wider use Be sure to visit both the White Pine and Cornell sites to
> learn more about CU-See Me.
