The computing environment of today and the future is changing.
Intense demands upon hardware and software are pushing the envelope
of technology to our current limits. Both the PC and MacIntosh line
of computers are failing to handle high end computing needs when it
comes to multiple users, group activities, and networking systems.

The alternative is the Unix operating system. Many businesses are
turning to Unix because it offers a cost effective multi-tasking,
multi-user environment on many different hardware platforms.
Yet the learning curve for Unix is very steep and keeps people from
using Unix efficiently and effectively. Knowing the basics of Unix
can free you from many hours of frustration!

This workshop will give you the concepts, ideas, and models necessary
to understand what Unix is, how it works in the overall environment,
and where you need to go to get the information to make it work for
you. Free source-code from the book is provided to assist you in
this learning process.

You will leave understanding:

o the computing spectrum architeture and Unix
o how you interact with the shell user interface
o what shell scripts are and how they benefit you
