The best (and hardest to find) are nipple shaped foam plugs -- give over 30 dbs of noise reduction. Other cylindrical foam plugs give from 26 to 29 dbs of noise reduction. Silicon and wax plugs give even less reduction. Also available are plastic plugs -- but I find these both uncomfortable and near worthless for normal noise reduction. They are mainly useful for sudden loud noises such as gunshots. -Pete Zakel (phz@cadence.com or ..!uunet!cadence!phz) Digital computers are themselves more complex than most things people build: They have very large numbers of states. This makes conceiving, describing, and testing them hard. Software systems have orders-of-magnitude more states than computers do. - Fred Brooks, Jr.
