The resource manager seems to be having a problem reading my widget names in a 
line like:

*quit.fromVert: counter

where quit is the name of a command widget and counter is the name of a 
form widget.
I am aware that extra tabs or blanks after the word "counter" can have an
effect but other wise I have no idea why I am getting the error:

"Can't find widget name "counter""
(Or some thing like this, I'm afraid I'm not at my Xterminal at the moment.)

At any rate the resource manager can't seem to find "counter" defined in 
my program anywhere.  I'm sure that I have created a widget counter, and 
what's more, I'm sure that the widget "counter" was given the name "counter"
and still has it.  

the funny thing is that earlier in the App-defaults file I have the line:

*counter.foreground: red

which works perfectly.  The foreground color is changed to red.  How can the
resource manager understand the name "counter" here, but not further down
on in the file?  I have lots of other definitions of fromVert and fromHoriz
in the same file that work fine, but it seems if I move them around and 
change the references, I get errors of the same sort as the one explained above.
This is very confusing to me, and I feel appropriately humble and outraged.
The parent widget of quit is a form widget, counter has the same parent.
What am I missing?
