It is simple, easy to use, and fast. The real draw-back is that it runs under Atehna's OS - Andrew. We can't afford the system space to fit Andrew on, nor do we want to run Andrew. We tried installing Andrew to get EZ to work and then cut out all the bits of Andrew that we didn't need, but didn't get very far! Don't ask what happened but if you manage it please tell! Andrew is big, but you don't need to install everything to have EZ work. Build the basic "runapp" program (in atk/apps/, which includes the text editor and EZ), put it in a directory, give it a symlink name "ez", make a dummy empty directory called /foo/dlib/atk, set the environment var ANDREWDIR to "/foo", unsetenv CLASSPATH, and run "ez". The editor will come up just find, and you can edit to your heart's content. Styles and everything work. If you find you want to include some other things (such as embedded bitmaps), just change the list of things that get linked into the runapp image.
