I am currently experiencing the following problems using Devguide with golit:
1. I can't change the default font that Devguide displays/uses. I can change
the font that my application uses, but then the button labels and button
layout that Devguide has arranged are skewed and do not conform to the
new font.
2. There seems to be no implementation of Open Look's form widget class in
Devguide. The only general purpose contraint widget I can find is the
control area. However this only allows a row/column/absoluteXY type layout
and does not have the advantages of the form class which allow repositioning
of one widget when it's neighbor grows or shrinks (I really need this !!!)
3. I cannot seem to disable the InputFocus mechanism with ScrollingList
widgets and MenuButton widgets. I do not want these buttons or items to
turn Red!!! Setting the inputFocusColor resource to the backgroundColor
has the effect of enabling Monochrome display characteristics--where
the "focused" widget switches to reverse video. The "sunk in" 3d effect
that "touching" a ScrollingList item (with the function returned by
applTouchItem) produces is perfect for me, I do not need (or want)
the extra red highlight or reverse video. The same with the
Menu Button. I want to use this ScrollingList simply as a selection
mechanism, none of the items need to be editable.
4. For some peculiar reason I cannot set the "canvas pane" or DrawArea
widget's backgroundPixmap resource. When I attempt this and execute the
program I get an X error: BadMatch. This seems to be telling me that I
am setting the backgroundPixmap resource of an Input Only window. What??
Isn't the window of my GUI automatically an InputOutput window??? It
accepts all kinds of keyboard and mouse commands just fine, and certainly
a DrawArea widget is intended to be used as a place to "draw" things.
The other possibility is that when I create the Pixmap which is assigned
to the backgroundPixmap resource, that I somehow specify the wrong
display or drawable to XCreateBitmapFromData.
This is a difficulty in working with Devguide's tree-structure. How do I
get a legitimate widget value to pass to function such as XtDisplay or
XtScreen so that I can obtain a display and drawable? Is the *parent*
argument passed to me inside my create (user-specified procedure called
at the creation of a widget by golit) funtion an appropriate widget ID to
use?? That is what I am doing, but I am still experiencing these BadMatch
problems.
I haven't been following this group for more than 3 or 4 weeks, but is everyone
else as frustrated with this product as I am?? The documentation is
ridiculous. It seems that it isn't even aimed at programmers, but rather some
moron that wants to play around with the 'pretty control panel' and make
an executive decision-maker toy or something.
Please!! I am desperate for help here. Does anyone know what is going on?
I suppose it is ludicrous to think that Sun has an e-mail address for technical
support on their products, but is there someone that you folks have found
over there that is intelligent and is close to the group that wrote this
product and can answer questions like these over the phone? Everyone I seem
to be able to get a hold of knows absolutely nothing.
post responses, or e-mail to addr. below THANK YOU
(netnews! what a wonderful concept!)
