Please check out: http://members.aol.com/belmont111/neighbor.html and spread the word. Photo of part of the block at: www.sunsot.net Thanks www.techbalt.com Content of Plan Below: There is an old saying that goes a little something like this: "You can't choose your neighbors". Most of the time when a person or a couple moves in to a neighborhood they do not bring along a friend to move next door. But what if you could to do this? Not only would you and a friend move in at the same time, but there would be 15 other friends moving in also. I have been thinking and I realized that Baltimore is the perfect city for such an event to take place. If you have researched moving to Baltimore you probably have read about the various government programs that are in place to rejuvenate various parts of the city. There are many programs for many types of people with numerous stipulations and rules to follow. Wouldn't it be nice to make up your own rules? I am 25 years old and I think it would be pretty cool to own a big old house in the middle of Baltimore. I have looked at some big homes and they are really expensive. I have seen some cool neighborhoods that have interesting people who care about where they live, but I cannot afford a house there and I have to rent (Charles Village). In recent months I have discovered a block of large row houses in a not so nice area bordering a kind of up and coming neighborhood (which I have some inside information about). Most of the homes appear to be empty and boarded up. At least 5 are owned by the HABC. Upon further research I saw that one recently sold for $7000. I drove through the block and it appeared to me that only one house was occupied. It was a sad site. I wished I could buy a house there and move in. Then I realized that I could not do it alone. I would be eaten alive. IF 15 other people just like me, people who were willing to take chances and work hard bought some of these huge but cheap homes at the same time then we could change the area right away. We could hire one of those private security guards that drives around all night like they do in the neighborhoods off of Park Heights in Pikesville. Once people heard of these pioneers who resurrected this dead block then others would move in and fix up properties. I could go on and on about this idea of mine. It would be nice if there could be a donor of $100,000 to fund some of the communal aspects of this idea. Even without a donor this could really work. It just needs the right people. I know there are people out there that have to be interested in this. If this worked out we could serve as a model for the rest of the city and the country. I am not going to reveal the location of this block because I fear speculators will start buying up homes and make them unavailable. If you are interested or just a small bit intrigued, please email me at techbalt@lycos.com . I have a web site full of ideas, I thought it was about time that I took some financial and physical actions toward making Baltimore a better place. I can't do it alone. This will be fun.
