Baltimore City's Population Figures Adjusted

Oct 27, 2004 2:15 pm US/Eastern
Baltimore, MD (WJZ) New numbers show more people lived in Baltimore last
year than previously thought.

Acting on a challenge by city officials, the Census Bureau has revised
its most recent estimate of the city's population.

The estimated population as of July 2003 is now above 643,000 -- that's
an increase of nearly 15,000 people from the previous estimate.

It's the second time in recent years that Baltimore has successfully
challenged census estimates.

And it shows that the 50-year exodus of city residents has slowed down.

City officials say that the revision will result in about $2 million a
year in additional federal grants for drug treatment, transportation and
other areas.

No, the exodus continues, but an counter balancing inward migration has
increased
