Main St (Vancouver) pavement hazards

The C of V has been repaving Main St, either side
of King Edward (25th Ave.) Part of the process
seems to involve ripping off the pavement on
side-street accesses to Main St, so for example
your toolin' along eastbound on 18th, wanting to
cross Main, and you're confronted with:

1) ripped-up pavement on 18th where it abuts
   Main St.

2) this big, wheel-stoping raised ledge of fresh
pavement on Main Street itself, rising in front
of you like the White Cliffs of Dover. Except
it's not so white and not so visible. If it
f**ks you up, feel free to sue the City, same
   as Imelda Wong did:

It would have been nice if the street crews thought
of putting down some asphalt ramps for cyclists.
But no such luck.

If you ride at night in Vancouver, be very careful
about crossing Main Street.

cheers,
	Tom

Yes, fer sher!

Tonight I noticed a rider who's rear flasher's batteries
were palliative, so he stuck a rear-facing (white)
flashlight in the basket atop his rear rack. I dunno
how safe that is. I guess it's better than nothing,
and better than sticking a red blinkie on the front
of the bike.

I was recently pleased to note that along with the
Main St repaving, the City also installed cyclists'
traffic light pushbuttons at 30th & Main.

cheers,
	Tom
