I was appalled when I heard about this as a brief radio news item last
week. Indeed, I would not have thought the various acts which govern
financial institutions would allow for a credit union to "merge" with a
trust company. But I suppose there is always a way around regulations.

I have supported credit unions for over 40 years precisely because I do
not wish to deal with a bank or trust company. While the Surrey
situation does not affect me, this should sound a warning for credit
union members everywhere - if it can happen in Surrey, it can happen
anywhere.
