RE: 1992 US green cards lottery update.
Hello,
The following will be of interest to those of you who, for whatever
reasons, need or want legal resident status in the USA.
In 1992 and 1993, like it did in 1991, the U.S State Department will hold a
lottery to give away 40,000 "Green Cards": this is called the Transitional
Diversity Program; the citizens of about 30 countries can enter their name in
the lottery; it is NOT necessary, in order to enter the lottery, to have a
prior job offer, an outstanding regular visa application, or US sponsor such
as a family member living in the USA.
Applications will have to be mailed or dropped at a particular location,
tentatively set this year at Arlington Virginia, potentially subject to
change: last year it was the US post office in Merryfield, Virginia.
Applications have to be filed within a certain time-frame window, which
unofficially and tentatively could now be extended beyond 5 days to reach one
month.
Any applications filed before midnight on the first day of the filing
period, or after midnight on the last day, will be disqualified; last year,
39% of the total applications filed were rejected because of early filing and
another 10.5% were rejected because of late filing.
Other important filing conditions have been modified for this and next
year's draws and among other changes, in 1992 and 1993 Canadians are now
eligible; other eligible nationalities are as follows:
Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark,
Estonia, Germany, Finland, France, Gibraltar, England, Hungary, Iceland,
Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands (Holland), New-Caledonia, Norway, Poland, San
Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia.
