>are even needed? When (for analogy's sake) do two private citizens need to >negotiate? During business deals certainly, but aside from that their >confrontations will always involve illegal acts, from neighborhood doggy >doo problems to murder. They could be negotiating about who gets the choice parking spot out front of their houses, what sort of fence to put up etc. People negotiate all sorts of things all the time; much of the time it is through civil cases in a court of law (which is not to say an illegal act has occurred). >Your points caused me to think about one big problem of corporations. >When they break the law, there is no one who is made to feel the pain of >punishment. Fines are as meaningless to them as they are to rich men, and >nobody can be incarcerated. This has bothered me as well. I think we need something like a "death penalty" for coporations - i.e. if a particular co. gets too out of hand it id disbanded and all assets seized. The concept of limited liability needs revision as well, there should be no financial liability for normal business conduct nut officers, employees & shareholders should be liable both criminally & civily (sp?) for damage which they might reasonably have avoided, to society or individuals. If there are exemptions to this then they should be few and far between and only for organizations which can demonstrate the necessity. Am I being clear? If not then sorry, it is late and I'm in a hurry...... ttfn, john
