This is my follow-up to my post on 24 Nov 2011 which you should read
to know what I'm talking about.

This change effects analog cable channels
tuned in with analog television.

Whether you have a old or new TV, if it only
gets analog signals, it will be harder to pick
up TV channels with it soon.

The days of old but easy to tune-in analog
TV channels are coming to an end. Yes those were
the days where you just plug in a TV and a
cablevision wire from a wall directly to your TV and
get a TV channel.

During most of 2011 and some of 2012, TV commercials told us of the
over-the-air change to digital. And the commercials informed us that
if we receive our TV stations over-the-air to get a converter box
or to subscribe to cable. I recall seeing TV adds telling people to
simply call Shaw Cable and subscribe to their cable in order to
not be disappointed when the over-the-air change occurs.
So one solution according to them, was to subscribe to cable.

Today (February 9Th 2013) Shaw's website says pretty much the same
thing:

https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1348#click3

which says:
"The majority of Canadians will not be affected by the transition.
That's because more than 90% of Canadians
today receive their television signals through a cable or satellite
provider."

This is false, because some cable channels have been effected since
2011 and are being effected right now. They have been and are
being converted to digital.

And even worst:

"Shaw Cable and Shaw Direct customers are not affected because
your television signals are already being obtained via cable or
satellite. Any television sets connected to your cable or satellite
service will not be affected by this transition." - found here:

http://www.shawdirect.ca/promotions/english/digitaltransition/default.asp?WT.mc_id=DTV

The last one is worst, because it's so untrue. Shaw cable customers
have been being effected as they have lost one channel at a time.
Which ones? Well, in the Vancouver area, channels such as cable 56,
"Speed Vsion" (was on cable 55), "TVtropolis" (was on cable 48),
"Slice" (was on cable 41),
"Encore" (was on cable 38).

Very soon, Shaw Cable customers will be effected even more, as a whole
group of channels will disapear from the analog cable.

They include, Home & Garden Television, 30 KVOS - MeTv, 31 A&E, 32
Spike TV, 33 CNN, 34 TLC, 35 MuchMoreMusic, 36 BBC World News,
37 CNN - Headline News, 39 Showcase, 40 Bravo!, 41 Slice, 42 Discovery
Channel, 43 Treehouse, 44 History Television West, 45 Space,
46 Turner Classic Movies, 47 WPCH - Peachtree TV, 49 Outdoor Life
Network, 50 Teletoon - West, 51 Family Channel - West,
52 The Food Network, 53 American Movie Classics, 54 SCORE, 57 The
Comedy Network, 58 BNN:Business News Network

KVOS, which for many years was comfortably sitting at cable 12, was
pushed up to cable 30 some time last year. If that took some
time to get use to, wait till you see it vanish completely from
channel 30 if you don't upgrade to digital.

As I expected, this is now causing confusion. This is just one message
boards I saw where people are wondering what's going on that
they will be loosing channels when they were told they would not be
effected.

I'm not against digital but against not having a choice. And being
told inaccurate information.
When Shaw completes all (or almost all) of their cable signals to
digital,
people with Shaw Cable and with older TV sets or new analog sets will
have to get a
digital-to-analog converter box.

Yes, the days where you just plug in a TV and a
cable-vision wire from a wall directly to your TV and get
a TV channel are changing. Soon you'll have to put a
carry around a "box" to plug in between the cable
coming in to your home and your television set. How
much is this all going to cost the consumer?
Imagine people on low income having to shop for
a "box" and the technically challenged try to figure out how it all
works and how to tape one show while watch another!
