Hi I have OS 10.2 with samba installed. I would like to try to have a windows xp share folder automounted by samba, each time my laptop connects to the network I know I need to modify the fstab file and add the following like mount -t smbfs //elcid/share /laptop-mount It works, but obviously it pauses and ask for a password. I would like to send the password along with the mount command. Checking googles, I found that some people claims that it works if the following command is addded mount -t smbfs //elcid/share /laptop-mount -o username=user, password=password well, on My OS 10.2 it complains that - o username= is not supported. The man mount command shows many options but not any command to enter a password or username. I also should point out, how come smbmount command is not available under OS 10.2 ?? please any help is greatly appreciated

If you don't mind this mouse clicking procedure, click on "Go" on the Finder bar, choose "connect to a server", click on the NT domain/server name in the window that appears (the window will look like what used to be Chooser in pre-OS X), choose the share you want, somewhere along the road there will be an option to auto-reconnect.. I think by clicking on 'Advanced' on the userid/password dialog box and checking the box that says "add password to the keychain". I don't have a MacOS X box handy so it's all from memory but that should be enough to steer you in the right direction. > I know I need to modify the fstab file and add the following like > > mount -t smbfs //elcid/share /laptop-mount > > It works, but obviously it pauses and ask for a password.
