mountain weather forecast for coastal British Columbia issued by the
Pacific weather centre of Environment Canada in Vancouver at 2:00 PM
PST Sunday 3 December 1995 valid until midnight Monday. The next
scheduled forecast will be issued at 6:00 AM PST Monday.
Precipitation intensity is forecast as an
hourly rate of snowfall water equivalent.
Nil light moderate heavy
no pcpn up to 2.5 mm 2.5 to 7.5 mm more than 7.5 mm
discussion.
A very cold upper low located near 56n 136w at 12 PM has been
moving se about 10 knots. Its expected to curve more to the east to
lie near prince George Monday morning. Satellite imagery
indicates heavy convection rotating cyclonically around the upper low
all the way down to the central coast. Heights will continue to fall
today as upper low approaches. This coupled a with strong onshore
flowwill maintain locally heavy snows until this evening. Onshore
flowwill ease overnight so precipitation will taper off. Areas near
the core of the system May expect moderate to heavy snow for short
periods of time as it passes overhead.
A developing system approaching from southwest Alaska will spread
light snow to region from the west-northwest late Monday.
In the south a low pressure system near 46n 131w will move rapidly
northeast to just south of Vancouver by late this afternoon and into
southern alberta early Monday. The northern edge of clouds and
weather with this system extends to just north of port hardy.
Precipitation has become more organized to the east of the system as
weak warm air advection continues aloft. With the passage of an
associated strong cold front late this evening precipitation will
become convective. Winds in the lee of the cold front will gust as
high as 90 km/h for a few hours.
Convection will ease Monday as heights rebound and onshore flow
weakens.the arctic front will slide
to a position just south of Vancouver and will stall early Tuesday
morning.
Freezing level..in the south 700 metres rising to 1100 metres this
afternoon. Levels lowering to near surface tonight and rising to
300 metres Monday afternoon. Central..400 metres coast to
surface inland lowering to surface tonight. North coast..surface.
Extended outlook.
In the south and southern central areas the arctic front will
gradually weaken in place Tuesday
and Wednesday. Flurries will beome infrequent Tuesday as the flow
below 700 mb becomes light except moderate outflow through inlets.
In the north an intense winter storm will move onshore
Tuesday morning bringing heavy snow to areas north of bella coola.
Late Wednesday will bring a new surge of arctic air to the lower
mainland and diminishing precipitation in the north.
