End/dt 865 fpcn50 cwvr 151352 mountain forecast guidance for coastal British Columbia issued by the Pacific weather centre of Environment Canada in Vancouver at 4 AM PST Friday 15 December 1995 valid until midnight Saturday. The next scheduled guidance will be issued at 2 PM today. Synopsis. An upper cold low sits just north of port hardy at 4 AM with an upper trough extending southwards. The system will slowly migrate eastwards today to lie east of the south coast mountains overnight. Convection will be heaviest near and to the east of the upper trough. Moderate inflow will enhance the convection but this flow will ease as the day progresses. Rising heights and drier air will result in only isolated light convection over the north and central coasts and west of the upper trough in the south. The arctic front will remain stationary to the northeast of a stewart-nass line with little weather expected with it. A nw-se upper trough near 50n 150w is forecast to lie lie along the mainland coast late Saturday afternoon. System will be weakening in split flow but there May be enough punch to give a few hours of light precipitation. Freezing level..south..1200 metres outer coast to 1000 metres inland. North..500 metres coast to surface inland. Extended outlook. A series of disturbances embedded in a west-southwest flow aloft will cross the coast through the period. There is some uncertainty as to where the main waves will cross the coast as the numerical guidance is not consistent in position of the jet stream. But it will be wet nevertheless. South coast mountains. Warnings.. Snowfall warning Whistler. Light today with occasional moderate convection this morning. Nil to light convective tonight. Nil Saturday becoming light in the afternoon. Mountaintop winds.. Southwest 50 to 60 km/h easing to west 30 tonight and rising to southeast 50 Saturday afternoon. Central coast mountains. Warnings.. None. Nil to light convection today. Nil tonight. Nil Saturday becoming light near noon. Mountaintop winds.. Variable 20 km/h becoming southwest 30 this afternoon rising to southeast 40 to 60 Saturday morning. North coast mountains. Warnings.. None. Nil to light today. Nil tonight. Nil Saturday becoming light in the afternoon. Mountaintop winds.. Northerly 20 km/h today becoming west 20 this afternoon and southeast 30 tonight. Wind rising to southeast 40 to 60 Saturday morning. Confidence..good except fair on intensity of saturdays system crossing coast. It appears system will be weak as it shears out in split flow aloft.
