This literally means "radio clock", and is extremely common in Europe, but completely unknown in North America (in many ways, we are really rather backward here). A Funkuhr is a clock or a wristwatch that receives longwave time signals (transmitted from a central transmitter) that allows it to keep absolutely perfect time. These clocks and watches even automatically change their time when summer time (daylight saving time) starts and ends. I first started seeing these things in Germany about 11 years ago (and STILL no one has ever heard of them here!). Now the prices have come down so much that a small bedside alarm clock with built in receiver, costs only $20.00. Nearly everyone has one. What amazes me is that a wristwatch (such as those made by Junghans and others) which looks no different than an ordinary analog watch, can incorporate this feature. Bob.
