I was stationed at Ft Greely Alaska for a year, and as the Eskimos around the base told me, the only Igloos they ever saw were in "White man's books" As far as the snow, Ft Greely was between two mountain ranges, and after a while it got too cold and dry to snow. BTW, the base was the US Army cold weather test site, and I had the fun job of keeping a radio and television station on the air, in that climate.
