Success in Getting Fluoride Out of Drinking Water in Many Areas
We are very impressed with the wonderful progress the Fluoride Action
Network has made in our efforts to achieving fluoride-free water throughout
the world. Dr. Connett and his team will continue their mission to educate
people on the dangers of fluoride and their efforts to protect everyone's
right to have access to safe, fluoride-free water.
The fluoride debate finally got some well-deserved media attention this
year, following the undemocratic process adopted by the five-member City
Council of Portland, Oregon. Citizens had already voted 'no' on water
fluoridation for Portland on three separate occasions, clearly demonstrating
the public will on this subject. Despite that, on September 12, the council
announced they'd approved the plan to add fluoride to Portland's water
supplies by March 2014. In response, the residents rallied for a referendum.
In an inspiring show of people power, the city collected TWICE the
needed signatures to qualify the referendum to give citizens the right to
vote on fluoridation1. In the past year, campaigns around the US, Canada,
Australia, and New Zealand, have made great strides to end the harmful
practice of adding fluoride ? which you'd have to get a doctor's
prescription for, were you to want to take it in pill form ? to community
drinking water.
