THE MARCHING CONTEST Dear High School Band Director, The Marching Contest is a new and innovative marching contest. We were able to take several great ideas and put them all together in one fabulous contest. Please take this opportunity to learn more about The Marching Contest. The bands will be qualified to enter the contest on a first come basis. Performance times will be based on a random drawing. There will be 30 bands competing in a preliminary event. Awards will be presented to the top 3 bands in 3 classes. The group will then be narrowed to the top 10 scoring bands, which will compete in a final competition. Awards will be presented to all of the final bands on the field in a full retreat ceremony. There will be 7 highly qualified judges focusing on specific areas. There will be 4 judges in the stands and 3 on the field. One judge will focus on music performance ensemble worth 20 points and another judge will focus on music performance individual worth 20 points. These two scores will be averaged to obtain a maximum of 20 total points. One judge will focus on visual performance ensemble worth 20 points and another judge will focus on visual performance individual worth 20 points. These two scores will be averaged to obtain a maximum of 20 total points. Two judges will focus on general effect music worth 20 points each. These scores will be added to obtain a maximum of 40 points. One judge will focus on general effect visual worth 20 points. The Marching Contest will also have a Scholarship Program. This Scholarship will be awarded to a predetermined person who will be randomly select for all the participating bands. The members of each band will select a person who they feel would be the most deserving of this award. The Scholarship award will only go to someone who will be attending college the following school year. This person will receive Scholarship money from an interest bearing account for the next 4 years to attend a college of their choice. At the end of 4 years the account will be depleted of all monies. The amount of the Scholarship will be based on the final profit of the contests. The Scholarship Program will just get bigger every year as The Marching Contest grows. A lot of things are going on behind the scene. It takes a tremendous amount of timing, coordination and planning to make a 15-minute performance run like clockwork. The Marching Contest will take control and guide you through every stage of the contest. We will furnish you with viewpoints from 7 judges to help you improve your band.
